Chicago Blackhawks player Marion Hossa surprised budding hockey players at a special event February 22 at the Daniel A. Cotter Club.
Since last month, 200 kids age 8-14, have been honing their hockey skills as part of the organization's floor hockey league, which was made possible by Hossa, the Chicago Blackhawks and Coca-Cola.
Teams from 11 different clubs practice and play against each other each week at Cotter Club. The generous contributions pay for equipment and transportation costs.
"In addition to learning the sport and skills of hockey and how to work together as a team, the league allows players to meet other young people representing various Clubs from neighborhoods across Chicago," said Jim Pottinger, Cotter Club Director and organizer of the floor hockey league.
